Holiday Closing: MLK Day

All locations of the Abilene Public Library will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Outside materials returns will be available at all locations and we'll resume our normal hours of operation the following day at 9AM. 

Teen Flix

Teens are invited out to another movie night at the library where we'll be showing a recent flick starring George Clooney and a trinket that provides an astounding glimpse of the future.  Light snacks will be provided and for additional information on the feature film, visit our Movie Schedule Online.

Kids' AR Club

Youth, in grades K-5, are invited out to our evening storytime program where children's staff will share stories that have made the Accelerated Reader list in schools.  Come out to hear some great books and then possibly test over them in school. 

Discovering the Hidden Clues in the U.S. Census

We're inviting out veteran genealogist Cindy Jones to provide a great program on how to utilize information from the U.S. Census from 1790 through 1940.  This is a great resource to use when researching your own family history.  Having a little help will make your future endeavors that much easier.  Come ready to learn a few things, and ask some questions too. 

Family Fun: Bear Snores On

Kids of all ages, and parents too, are invited out to our afternoon Family Fun event where it will center on the story of "Bear Snores On."  Join us as we share this tale featuring a menagerie of woodland animals who gather in Bear's cozy cave, while also sharing songs, crafts, and more fun. 

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you're between the ages of 10-17 and love to write, look at being a part of our weekly writing club at the library.  Hone your creative writing skills with no pressure or stress in this fun and interactive group at your library, led by children's librarian Kelsie Wade.  Each week we'll work on writing activities and collaborate in all forms of writing, while going over the basics too.  There's no need to register, just come ready for some writing fun. 

Cover-to-Cover Book Club

If you're 18+, join our monthly book club at your library, meeting on the third Thursday evening of each month.  For January, we'll be having a discussion on the books you've read over the holidays, and get some ideas of some titles you might want to read from your library.
