Family Fun: Dragon Tales

After School Adventure Program (ASAP): England

We're starting a new After School Adventure Program for youth ages 6 and older.  At these sessions, we'll combine education with the storytime process as we discover the world together through books, activities, and crafts.  Our first adventure will have us exploring the country of England.  We'll even build a castle for display in the library.  Don't miss out on this brand-new program at your library.

It's time for a movie night for teens.  February is the month of romance, and this month we're showing a film that will celebrate love, but with action and zombies too.  This movie is about a zombie named R who meets a human girl and starts to change as he develops feelings for her.  It's a great film, adapted from a popular YA novel, so come on out and watch.  Light snacks will be provided and for additional information on the featured flick, visit our Movie Schedule Online.

Kids' AR Club

Youth in grades K-5 are invited to the next session of the AR Club where children's staff will share stories from the AISD Accelerated Reader List.  It's a great evening storytime where youth may also have the chance to test on the books we've shared at school. 

Identity Theft: Don't Be a Victim

Protecting one's identity continues to be important, especially in the digital age.  If it's a concern of yours, this is the workshop for you.  Join us as we invite in Steve Abel, with the Abilene Better Business Bureau, as he explains how you can best protect yourself from this increasingly troublesome problem.  Plus, it will be the perfect time to ask questions and get the answers you need from experts in our community. 

Free Tax Assistance

IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP will be on hand to help you e-File your taxes for free at the library.  Bring your Photo ID, social security card, W-2's, and all other tax information you'll need, then let our volunteers help you e-File at the library.  Everyone will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis (no appointments) and sessions will be hosted on a weekly basis through Apr. 15. 

Teen Book Club: "Soundless"

If you're a teen, and you love to read, don't miss your chance to be a part of our monthly book club focusing on popular YA reads.  This month we'll be discussing "Soundless," by bestselling author Richelle Mead, most know for authoring the Vampire Academy series.  Look for a copy of our featured book at your library, and then come ready to discuss it at our next meeting.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you're between the ages of 10-17, and you love to write, you'll want to be a part of our writing club at the library.  This group meets every Thursday afternoon and it's the perfect place to be able to come out and hone your creative writing skills with your peers.  We work on a variety of writing activities in a stress free environment and led by children's librarian Kelsie Wade. 

PBS Film Series: Latino Americans

Join us as we continue this series of programs on the largest minority group in the U.S. through this documentary series chronicling the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the U.S. over the last 500+ years.  It's a story of immigration and redemption, of anguish and celebration, of the gradual construction of a new American identity that connects and empowers millions of people today.

It's back, the after hours movie night at your library.  February may be the month of love, and we'll be showing a flick about a husband and ex-wife and their love for their daughter in their desperate attempt to rescue her after an earthquake rips through California.  It's an action-packed blockbuster from last year starring Dwayne Johnson and you'll certainly want to watch.  Snacks will be provided and rides should return for pickup no later than 7:50PM.  For more information, visit our Movie Schedule Online.
