Your Abilene Public Library offers access to a wide variety of databases which are available to all library cardholders. These resources include business, travel, homework, leisure, and more.
I'd like to introduce you to one of those databases, designed especially for those looking to brush up their skills to look for employment. Unlike in the past, most jobs now require some level of proficiency in computers. Let's face it, most job openings are now online and the majority of them require you to apply online as well. If you need help when it comes to the only job hunt process and all it entails, the Job & Career Accelerator database is a great tool to add to your arsenal.
Powered by the Learning Express Library, this site provides access to a complete career selection and job search tool so you can hit the fast track and get yourself hired. As a fully integrated online job search system, this database offers career selection, job searching, guides for creating your own resume, tips on how to slam dunk that interview, and help with additional skills to make you competitive as a future employee. Best yet, all of this is offered to you free of charge and accessible 24/7 from any computer (or mobile device) with access to the Internet. All you need is a valid Abilene Public Library card.
The Job & Career Accelerator is best used by first creating a username and password to access all the features. Registration is free and you only have to set up your account once. Simply click the "Register" button on the right-hand side of the screen and fill in the information required. Plus, if you've already created login information for the Learning Express Library, that same username and password will work on this database too.
Once logged on, you're ready to start, and this database will keep track of the information you enter so you don't have to start from scratch on each visit. Among the areas you'll have access to are "Search for a Job," "Write My Resume," developing basic computer and software skills through online tutorials, and more.
The computer and software sections are especially valuable by giving you a how-to on the fundamentals of using PC's, which are important skills to develop for most positions these days. Plus, if you want to go further in this training, call us at 325-676-6025 and ask about our Book-A-Librarian service. We can sign you up for 1-on-1 time with a librarian so we can teach you how to use a computer and various programs. This training service at your library is also free for you to take advantage of.
The Job & Career Accelerator database will always keep track of your progress along the way, and if you need to leave and come back at a later time, you may do so as long as you've created your username and password. Everything you need to get started with searching and finding the career you want can be found here. Regardless of your skill level, you'll be guided through the entire process to help build your confidence in no time.
We invite you to visit the Abilene Public Library's website and click on the E-Resources link to see what we have to offer.
