Science Club @ Your Library

If you're at least 8-years-old, and you have an interest in science, be a part of our monthly afternoon Science Club at your library.  Each month we'll learn about a different science concept and then bring them to life by performing experiments to see it in action.  There's no need to register and we'll supply all the materials and instruction you'll need. 

Make & Take: Cotton Ball Lambs

We're getting ready for another fun, quick crafting session at your library where we'll supply all the materials to show you how to make some Cotton Ball Lambs.  Make & Takes are designed for kids of all ages, so stop by our crafting table this evening and make a craft of your own to take with you.

Stories in the Park: Dancin' in the Park

It's that time of year again!!!  It's time for the South Branch to begin hosting Stories in the Park for the spring and summer.  Join us at Redbud Park twice during spring break, and then every Thursday afternoon through July.  For our first session, the theme will be "Dancin' in the Park" where we'll have fun with stories, songs, and maybe a lot of dancing too.  Find us by lookout for the tall blue flag across from the playground.  We'll provide some tarps to sit on, but you're encouraged to bring your own blankets and chairs if you'd like.  Don't miss out on this fun afternoon storytime outdoors. 

Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament!

Join us for gaming fun at your library in an afternoon of Yu-Gi-Oh gaming for teens and young adults ages 13-21.  Learning decks and game mats will be supplied, and they're yours to keep after we're done.  Come join us and dip your toes into the collectible card game pond, along with our friends from The Gathering Place. 

After School Adventure Program (ASAP): Australia

Technically it's Spring Break, but the show will go on as we encourage youth to join us for our monthly After School Adventure Program at the library.  Last month we learned about England, and this month we're headed down under to Australia.  Join us for stories, games, songs, and crafts that's all about this continent in a storytime even that's both fun and educational.

We're finally ready to transform the winning entry of last summer's art contest into beautiful window vinyls to adorn a section of the first floor of the Main Library.  Contest winner Lyric, a local teen, will be on hand so we can celebrate and unveil her beautiful artwork, on a larger scale.  Join us for cupcakes and drinks, and enjoy this beautiful new feature at your library.

Youth, in grades K-5, are encouraged to attend our bi-monthly evening storytime event where we'll be sharing stories from the Accelerated Reader lists from AISD.  Hear great stories, and have the chance to test on them at school to earn points.

Free Tax Assistance

The public is welcome to take advantage of this free service, led by IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP, who will help you e-File your taxes for free at your library.  Slots fill up fast, so be sure to arrive early, and everyone will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.  Be sure to bring your tax materials including your Photo ID, W-2s, Social Security cards, etc., and multiple sessions will be hosted through Apr. 15. 

Tail Waggin' Tutors (Read to a Dog Day)

It's been a while, but we're bringing the fun of literature and canines back to the library.  Youth are invited to come out for an afternoon of fun reading to registered therapy dogs.  These four-legged friends won't judge you if you mispronounce a word, and they'll be there to enjoy great stories and encourage you to read.  Everyone who wants to read will get a turn, and it's also wonderful being able to meet great dogs inside the library.  Don't miss out on this special literacy event. 

Teen Scene After Hours: Splatter Paint Party

We're hosting a special after hours event at the Main Library for teens to enjoy.  We're creating splatter art inside the library, so you'll want to come in old clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.  Then we'll use brushes to splatter paint on the floor to create some awesome art.  Teens should arrive by 5:45PM as the doors will lock at 6:00PM and parents/rides should return for pickup by 8:00PM.

Family Fun: Pet Parade

Collecting Commas Writing Club

PBS Film Series: Latino Americans

Attend this continuation of a series of movie events where we'll watch parts of the documentary chronicling the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the U.S. over the past 500+ years.  With more than 50 million people, they are the largest minority group in the U.S., so come share in this documentary and learn of their history in America.

Teens won't want to miss the next After Hours Movie Night at the library, which is always a hit each month.  With the release of a film hitting theaters that will pit Batman against Superman, we're going to show the most recent live-action adaptation of the Superman movie starring Henry Cavill.  We'll supply the pizza, popcorn, and drinks, you just come ready for some movie fun.  This film runs in at 2 hours and 30 minutes, so rides should arrive for pickup by 8:15PM.  For more information about the featured flick, visit our Movie Schedule Page online.
