Texas Author Series feat. Chuck Bailey

Don't miss the next Texas Author Series event, which connects you with great authors from across the state of Texas. Hosted over the noon hour, feel free to bring your lunch, or purchase one from the Friends of the Library for $5, drinks provided. At this session, the featured author will be Chuck Bailey (lawyer from Austin, TX), discussing his two books, "Texas Political Memorabilia" and "Picturing Texas Politics: A Photographic History from Sam Houston to Rick Perry." Copies of his work will be available for purchase at the event, then you'll enjoy a great presentation from the author, followed by a quick Q&A. At the end of the program, you will even have the opportunity to participate in a book signing too. This series is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Abilene Public Library, the West Texas Book Festival, the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council and additional great organizations. Science Club @ Your Library

If you have a child with an interest in science, and they're at least 8-years-old, we encourage you to attend our monthly Science Club meeting at your Abilene Public Library. This is a great after school program where each month we meet to learn about a new science concept and then bring it to life through getting hands-on with fun & safe experiments. It's an educational program that's super fun. If you haven't been to a session, today may just be the day to check it out.

Make & Take: Flower Bouquets

We're hosting another great evening crafting workshop designed for kids of all ages. Stop by this evening and we'll show you how to make your own Flower Bouquets using materials we'll supply. They'll make for some great decorations for your rooms.

If you're looking for a great movie to watch at your library, try attending our movie nights for the public. We'll be hosting a great one with a well-known flick starring Kevin Costner that had us all saying, "if you build it, they will come."   In this film, an Iowa corn farmer, hearing voices, interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields; he does, and the Chicago White Sox come.

It's time for another after school crafting session at your library as things will be getting a little super in our activity area. Join us as we supply all the materials to show kids how to make a fun superhero craft...which will certainly help to get them in the mood for Lib-Con activities coming in May.

Teen Time: Pizza & Games

It's a great time to take a load off, from a long day at school, and meet up with your friends to have some fun. At this session, the featured game will be Eco Fluxx - The Card Game. Super Storytime: Ladybugs

It's all about LADYBUGS for the next Super Storytime event at your library. Kids of all ages, and parents too, are invited to join in on this enhanced storytime event where we'll share stories, songs, and crafts that are all about these red and black bugs. Stories in the Park: Teddy Bear Picnic

It's time for another session of the popular Stories in the Park session with children's staff at your South Branch Library. Designed for kids of all ages, this afternoon storytime is where we take our program on the road and to a local city park. Join us at Redbud Park, across from the playground (look for the blue flag) and we'll host an afternoon of stories, songs, and other fun activities for kids to enjoy. 

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you're between the ages of 10-17, and you love to write, don't pass up on joining this after school writing club at your library.  Come hone your creative writing skills with a great group of youth as we engage in writing activities, prompts, share our works with others, and more in a stress-free environment.  All are welcome to join us and there's no registration needed.

Teens are invited to join us for another After Hours movie night at your library. For this month, we're shaking things up with an action flick that will combine monsters with man-made machines in a battle to save humanity. We're talking about "Pacific Rim" starring Charlie Hunnam & Idris Elba. In this film, as a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.  Snacks and drinks will be provided and rides should arrive for pickup no later than 8:00PM.

Don't miss the next Family Flix event at your Main Library where kids and parents are invited out to an afternoon flick at your movie. For this month, we'll be showing a Disney classic about a father searching for his son in the deep blue sea in "Finding Nemo." In this movie, after his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.  Popcorn and lemonade will be served, while supplies last, so don't miss out on coming to our monthly movie.
