Family Fun: Ninja Gathering

Kids and parents are invited out to our monthly Family Fun event at your Main Library where this month we'll be having a Ninja Gathering as the theme. This enhanced storytime event will offer great stories. games, a ninja obstacle course, and of course making some great crafts to remember the program by. All materials will be supplied.

After School Adventure Program (ASAP): Asia

Kids are invited to join us for the next session of the After School Adventure Program (ASAP) where we explore the continents of the world to learn about cultures and people around us. Last month we went to Australia and this month we're headed to Asia. Designed for youth ages 6+, join us for this great event to learn about our friends in the east.

Teens are welcome to join us for the next Teen Movie Night at your library. This month we'll be watching the 2012 musical comedy "Pitch Perfect" starring Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson. In this film, Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group.  Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.  With familiar songs you'll know, come ready to sing it up with us at your library.

Youth, in grades K-5, are invited out to our bi-monthly evening storytime event at your library.  Each time, children's staff will share stories to share, straight from the school's AR Lists.  Books will range between 1-3 points so once we're done, kids can possibly test over them in school.  Don't miss out on this great activity at your library.

Teen Book Club: "Mechanica"

Teens are invited to join us for our monthly session of the Teen Book Club at your South Branch Library. Each month we'll discuss popular YA reads from the collection, and this month we'll be discussing "Mechanica" by Betsy Cornwell. Checkout a copy from your library, read it, and then come ready to discuss with other avid teen readers in the community. 

Stories in the Park: Crazy Hair

Get ready for another session of Stories in the Park with your South Branch Library where we take our storytimes on the road and to the local city park. The theme for this session will be Crazy Hair, so come out in your craziest hairdos, and we might just be able to help you with that if you come to the program. Find us at Redbud Park, across from the playground (look for the blue flag) and join us for stories, songs, and other fun activities outdoors.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you're between the ages of 10-17, and you love to write, you'll certainly want to become a part of this after school writing club at your library.  Each week we meet to work on a variety of writing prompts and activities so we can hone our creative writing skills in all areas.  Plus, we do so in a stress-free environment.  We have a great group of regular club members, but we encourage your to check it out for yourselves.  No registration necessary, just come out and enjoy.

PBS Film Series: Latino Americans

Join us for another session of the documentary series from PBS that chronicles the achievements of Latino Americans and how much they've contributed to the shaping of America over the past 500+ years. It's an informative program that guests of all ages will benefit from. 

Cover-to-Cover Book Club

If you're looking for a book club, join the library's premiere club for adult readers in the community. This month the featured selection will be the international bestseller by Anthony Doerr titled "All the Light We Cannot See, which has been on the New York Times Bestsellers list for over 90 weeks. Checkout a copy from your Abilene Public Library (we own it in all formats) and be sure to join us for the next club meeting.

The entire family is invited to join us for an afternoon movie at your library, where the featured flick will be the 2001 action-comedy starring Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa PenaVega & Daryl Sabara in Spy Kids.  In this movie, when retired secret-agent parents turn up missing, their children must rise to the challenge to save them from danger.  They're real spies...only smaller.  This film is rated PG for action sequences, but don't pass up on your chance to be a part of the movie fun at your library.
