Holiday Closing: Fourth of July

All library locations will be closed in observance of Independence Day.  Outside materials returns are available at all locations and feel free to renew materials online, or make use of our great digital services too.  We'll resume our normal hours of operation of Tuesday at 9:00AM.

School-Age Event: Abilene Kennel Club

We’re no strangers to hosting great programming featuring animals at your library, and kids won’t want to miss this popular summer event at your Main Library.  We’re welcoming in members of the Abilene Kennel Club, who will be bringing their amazing canine pals, to host a series of demonstrations for the audience to enjoy.  From tricks to commands, they’ll be doing it all to entertain the crowd.  Plus, at the end of the program, everyone will get the chance to meet each of the featured four-legged friends at the library.  It certainly is one amazing event, and for additional information, feel free to contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.l

Zoo Lady Visit

Gear up for the next visit from Joy Harsh, and her animal friends, from the Abilene Zoo as they head out to the South Branch Library for more educational fun.  Designed for kids of all ages, The Zoo Lady will bring out different animals to each of the libraries and teach youth all about them.  It’s the best way to see some great zoo animals inside your library.  Plus, at the end of the program, guests will be able to touch some of the animals as well.  We’ve been visited by owls, alligators, pythons, and more, so don’t miss out on your chance to see which animals will visit us this time.  For additional information about this event, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Anime Club

Tween & Teen Coloring Club

With the success of the Coloring Club for adults, we’re adding a special coloring club this summer for tweens and teens to enjoy at your library.  If you’re between the ages of 8-18, you’re invited out to your Mockingbird Branch Library on Wednesday afternoons to have some coloring fun of your own.  Relax and work on a number of pages from superheroes to new age designs to classic images and more.  We’ll supply all the materials you’ll need for each session, but please feel free to bring your own supplies if you’d like.  Don’t miss out on the fun, and for additional information, please feel free to contact us at 325-437-7323.

Read to a Dog Day

We’re happy to be partnering with our friends from the Tail Waggin’ Tutors, who will be out to the library for another great Read-to-a-Dog Day.  This is a great literacy event where registered therapy dogs are brought into the library for children to read to.  These furry friends won’t judge you if you make a mistake, and they’re always ready to interact with kids who are willing to share stories with them.  This is the perfect opportunity to meet great animals inside your library; however, we do ask that you leave your own pets at home.  Everyone child who wishes to participate will have the opportunity to do so, and for additional information, feel free to contact Heather Carter at 325-437-7323.

Tween Time: Dinosaur Skeletons

We’re ready for another Tween Time craft workshop at your library, and this session will be hosted on a different day, different time, due to the library being closed on July 4.  Join us this afternoon for a hands-on dinosaur project where we’ll be showing youth, ages 8-15, how to create their own Dinosaur Skeletons, which is perfect for the Summer Reading Club theme this year.  We’ll supply all the materials and instructions you need for making your own, you just come out ready for some crafting fun at your library.  For more information, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Stories in the Park: Sports

Family Fun: Favorite Authors – Bob Shea

Are you ready for some Family Fun at your library?  Then you should definitely be in attendance at this event where we’ll be highlighting and sharing the works of author/illustrator Bob Shea.  Known for his series of great books including “Dinosaur vs. Santa” and “Dinosaur vs. Bedtime,” Shea’s books just draw you in with their humor and illustrations.  Kids of all ages, and parents too, are invited to join us for his stories, songs, games, crafts and more that all relate to the lovable dinosaur in these works, which ties right in with the Kids’ Reading Club theme this year.  Don’t miss out, and for additional information, feel free to contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Make & Take: Dinosaur Sun Catchers

Collecting Commas Writing Club

The Coloring Club

Fitness Class: Pound

Health & Fitness is the theme of this year’s Adult Summer Reading Club at your library, and we’re gearing up for a series of fitness activities for the community to get involved in at your library.  We’re partnering with YMCA Abilene to offer guests with some a Saturday fitness class each month, and all are free for you to take advantage of.  This second session will feature a Pound class that incorporates cardio interval and strength training with the beating of a drum that adds to the challenge of the workout.  An instructor will take you through an entire workout at your library to give you a taste of what this workout is all about, so don’t pass up on your chance to come check it out.  For additional information, contact Anne Ellis at 325-437-7323.

Family Flix

Kids and parents are invited out for a great mid-morning movie at your library, where we’ll be showing the recent hit “Zootopia.”  In this film, in a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.  With great reviews and being a box office hit, come out and watch this animated hit at your library.  Light snacks will be provided, or you’re free to bring your own.  For additional information, feel free to contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.
