Joe McDermott
Joe McDermott knew as a 3-year-old that he wanted to be a musician.

"I never had any doubt about what I wanted to do," he said in a phone interview from Austin.

It's fitting that the adult McDermott now writes and sings for an audience in that very demographic.

McDermott will play at 10:45AM & 3PM Tuesday as the first performer in the Young Audiences of Abilene/Abilene Public Library Summer Library Season.

He didn't exactly plan on a career as a children's music star.

"Doing music for kids happened so organically," McDermott said.  "I started as a teacher."

Summer is a busy time for McDermott who visits a lot of libraries and performs at various events.

Kids are drawn to the lively music, the fun lyrics and McDermott's animated performance.

Hit songs include "Don't Drop a Brick on Your Foot," "Baby Kangaroo," "I Got Stuck in an Elevator" and "Thank You Mud."
