Monday Morning Movies

Don’t miss out on our morning movie sessions at the Main Library this summer, as we’ll be showing hits from the past and present and aimed at the general adult audience.  Each movie session will be hosted in the auditorium at the library and for our next Morning Movie flick, we’ll be watching the great 1974 crime drama “Murder on the Orient Express” starring Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, and Ingrid Bergman.  In this film, set in 1934, when his train is stopped by deep snow, detective Hercule Poirot is called on to solve a murder the occurred in his car the night before.  This film is rated PG and has a run time of 2 hr 8 min.  If you need any additional information about this program, please contact Marie Skufca at 325-676-6025.

Puppet Theater: Silly Stories

Don’t miss the annual puppet shows at your South Branch Library, as our children’s staff and volunteers are ready to entertain youth with our silly stories.  Join us for an afternoon of our twists on classic tales, and starring a wide host of fun characters…Scare E. Twisted Tales Teen Book Club: “Cinder”

Teens, who love to read, are invited to be a part of our second Teen Book Club at your library called Twisted Tales.  This club focuses on reading popular YA books written as reimagined fairy tales, providing readers with a new take on an age old tale.  For the first selection we’ll share this month, we’ll be discussing the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer titled “Cinder.”  It’s such a popular series that once you start with one, you’ll want to devour the rest.  Check out a copy from your Abilene Public Library, read it, and then come ready to discuss with other avid teen readers in the community.  For additional information, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Tween Time: T-Rex Skulls

Tweens won’t want to miss the next Tween Time crafting workshop at the library as we’ll be showing you how to make one fun T-Rex Skull using empty milk containers.  How can that happen?  We’ll show you how and trust me, they look awesome.  We’ll supply all the materials you’ll need, as well as the instruction, to fashion your own dinosaur heads this evening, which ties in great with the Summer Reading Club theme for this year.  Don’t pass up on the fun and for additional information, feel free to contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Young Audiences featuring Dru Woods

Gear up for the next Young Audiences of Abilene session at your library, as a great and interactive series of events for local youth in the community to come out and enjoy.  This session will feature professional storyteller/puppeteer Drusilla Woods, a retired schoolteacher of Theater and Speech at Aledo Middle School.  Woods travels throughout Texas performing her shows with puppets and music, and she’ll be on hand to present a great show titled “Movin’ and Groovin’…Exercise the Body and Brain.”  For more information about this program, visit our Young Audiences Page online or contact us at 325-676-6067.  This series of events is made possible thanks to The Greathouse Foundation, HeARTS for the ARTS, Rotary Club of Abilene, Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Friends of the Abilene Public Library.

Make & Take: Choose Your Craft

Kids of all ages are encouraged to come out to this afternoon craft session at your South Branch Library where we’re hosting another Choose Your Craft session for Make & Take.  At this event, we’ll offer a series of different crafts and projects for youth to make, with many that have been made throughout our activities during the Summer Reading Club.  So if you missed a fun craft at the South Branch over the summer, this is the session to come and make them, as well as a host of others.  We’ll supply all the materials needed, and for additional information, contact Shelbie Fowler at 325-698-7565.

Tween & Teen Coloring Club

With the success of the Coloring Club for adults, we’re adding a special coloring club this summer for tweens and teens to enjoy at your library.  If you’re between the ages of 8-18, you’re invited out to your Mockingbird Branch Library on Wednesday afternoons to have some coloring fun of your own.  Relax and work on a number of pages from superheroes to new age designs to classic images and more.  We’ll supply all the materials you’ll need for each session, but please feel free to bring your own supplies if you’d like.  Don’t miss out on the fun, and for additional information, please feel free to contact us at 325-437-7323.

Anime Flix

If you’ve been a fan of the Anime Club at the library, don’t pass up on this extension of that program with Anime Flix.  As a special event for the Summer Reading Club, teens and young adults (ages 14-25) are invited to join us at the library as we show a popular anime flick.  Movie events are popular at your library, and if you’re into anime, you should definitely come and check out this afternoon showing.  For additional information about this event, contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

Senior Fitness Class w/Christa Ellis

It’s all about Health & Fitness as the theme for this year’s Adult Summer Reading Clubs at your library, and we’re taking full advantage of it by introducing you to some fitness classes you can take advantage of in the community.  This morning session will feature a Senior Fitness Class led by Christa Ellis of the Hendrick Health Club.  She will be on hand to guide you through a workout modified just for seniors.  Get fit with us at this free event at the library, and for additional information, contact Ann Mount at 325-676-6025.

Stories in the Park: Pigeon Party

Collecting Commas Writing Club

Super Storytime: Sing-A-Long

DIY Dinosaur Crafts

We’ve added a new series to your library for the summer at your Main Library, and tying directly into the Summer Reading Club theme this year.  It’s called DIY Dinosaurs where we’ll meet up to have youth create different dinosaur craft projects that will be cute and fun.  We had so many projects we wanted to do this summer, based on the theme of dinosaurs, that we just had to create more programming so we could do them all.  Kids of all ages are invited to come out and make some with us, and we’ll supply all the materials you’ll need to make your own.  For more information about this craft workshop, feel free to contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Teen Flix After Hours

Teens are invited out to the library for another session of the popular Teen Flix After Hours Movie Night at your library.  Teens asked for it, and they got it.  We’ve been working our way through the Hunger Games franchise, adapted from the bestselling series by Suzanne Collins, and tonight’s entry will be 2014’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.  In this film, Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever.  Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.  This film is rated PG-13 and runs in at 2 hr 3 min.  Snacks and drinks will be provided and rides should arrive for pickup no later than 7:50PM.  For additional information, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.
