Monday Morning Movies

Don’t miss out on our morning movie sessions at the Main Library this summer, as we’ll be showing hits from the past and present and aimed at the general adult audience.  Each movie session will be hosted in the auditorium at the library and for our next Morning Movie flick, we’ll be watching the another crime drama from 1941 with “The Maltese Falcon” starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor.  In this film, a private detective takes on a case that involves him with three eccentric criminals, a gorgeous liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette.  This film has a run time of 1 hr 40 min and for additional information, please contact Marie Skufca at 325-676-6025.

Science Club

Calling all Junior Scientists in the Abilene.  If you’re age 8 and up, don’t miss out on being a part of the Science Club at your library.  Just because school is on a break, it doesn’t mean you can’t keep on learning.  We’re putting the fun in education with discussing different science concepts, and then getting hands-on in the fun by performing experiments and watching demonstrations.  It’s the best way to learn after all.  We’ll supply all the knowledge and supplies you’ll need and there’s no need to register.  Simply come out ready to have a little and learn a thing or two about science at your library.  For additional information about this monthly club, contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

Make & Take: Dinosaur Finger Puppets

Are you ready for some more crafting fun for kids at your library?  You’re in luck.  We’re offering a great hands-on workshop where kids of all ages will get the chance to make their own cute little Dinosaur Finger Puppets.  You’ve been out to our puppet shows in the past and now you have the chance to put on your own mini-puppet shows with these crafts.  We’ll supply all the materials you’ll need for this activity.  All you have to do is come out ready to have some fun with library staff.  For additional information, feel free to contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Mockingbird Movies

If you’re looking to take a walk on the wild side, your invited to join us for our monthly evening movie night at the Mockingbird Branch Library.  We’ll be going back to the year 1962 and showing the western starring James Stewart, John Wayne, and Vera Miles in “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.”  In this movie, a senator, who became famous for killing a notorious outlaw, returns for the funeral of an old friend and tells the truth about his deed.  This film has a run time of 2 hr 3 min and has continued to hold strong reviews, so come re-live this classic at your library.  For more information, contact Anne Ellis at 325-437-7323.

Young Audiences with Lucas Miller

Are you ready for more fun with the Young Audiences of Abilene summer series at your library?  We certainly are, and we’re happy to host another interactive, educational, and fun event for local youth in the community to come out and enjoy.  For the third session, we’ll be welcoming in singing zoologist Lucas Miller, who has reached millions of people with his hilarious (and scientifically accurate) stories and songs.  Having been making school land library visits for more than 22 years, he’ll be on hand share his knowledge of science with local youth through music and goofy props.  For more information about this program, visit our Young Audiences Page online or contact us at 325-676-6067.  This series of events is made possible thanks to The Greathouse Foundation, HeARTS for the ARTS, Rotary Club of Abilene, Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Friends of the Abilene Public Library.

Tween & Teen Coloring Club

Lego My Library (Lego Club)

If you’re between the ages of 8-18 (even a little younger) don’t miss out on your chance to be a part of our Lego My- Library Lego Club at your library, meeting on the second Wednesdays of each month at the Main Library in the storyroom.  We’ll supply all the Legos that you’ll need as we turn the room into a builder’s paradise to see what incredible creations youth can come out and make.  Some month’s we have theme we work on and other times we free design.  Whether you work on a project solo, or team up with a group, just come out and be ready for some building and social fun at your library this afternoon.  For additional information, please feel free to contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

Baby & Me Yoga Class w/Tara Lamson

Don’t miss the next health & fitness workshop at your library as part of the theme for this year’s Adult Summer Reading Club at your library.  This session is designed especially for babies (ages 6 months to 3 years) and parents to enjoy, in a Baby & Me Yoga Class.  This event will be led by Tara Lamson of the Sage Yoga Center who will be on hand to guide you and your baby through a yoga session, start to finish.  Please bring a yoga mat and comfort toys for your baby, but don’t miss out on this unique activity being offered at your library.  For additional information, contact Ann Mount at 325-676-6025.

DIY Dinosaur Crafts

We’ve added a new series to your library for the summer at your Main Library, and tying directly into the Summer Reading Club theme this year.  It’s called DIY Dinosaurs where we’ll meet up to have youth create different dinosaur craft projects that will be cute and fun.  We had so many projects we wanted to do this summer, based on the theme of dinosaurs, that we just had to create more programming so we could do them all.  Kids of all ages are invited to come out and make some with us, and we’ll supply all the materials you’ll need to make your own.  For more information about this craft workshop, feel free to contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Paleontology School (Session 3): Dinosaurs

Teen Flix After Hours

Teens are invited to join us for a great movie night at the library, after the library has closed for the evening.  For this session, we’ll be watching a recently released hit film with 2016’s “Gods of Egypt” starring Brenton Thwaites, Gerard Butler, and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau.  In this film, mortal hero Bek teams with the god Horus in an alliance against Set, the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict.  This action adventure flick is rated PG-13 and runs in at 2 hr 7min.  Snacks and drinks will be provided and rides should arrive for pickup no later than 7:50PM.  For more information about this movie night, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.

After Hours Nerf Wars

 After a fun time battling it out at Lib-Con we’re ready for another round of fun during the Adult Summer Reading Club.  It’s all about health & fitness as the theme for this year, and who says you can’t have a little fun while getting a little exercise?  Join us in this after hours library event where you can bring your “Nerf” gun and ammo for a lively and good-natured battle royale throughout the library.  We do ask that you bring a “Nerf” weapon with standard darts, not the high-powered guns with round pellets or modified weapons as we’re not trying to hurt anyone.  And also note, that some ammo may be lost during game play, but it’s all in good fun.  Don’t miss out on the fun time to be had, and for additional information, contact Ann Mount at 325-676-6025.

Family Flix

Take a trip under the sea with us for our next Family Flix movie showing at your library for kids and parents.  We’re going back into the water to relive the classic Disney flick from 1989 titled “The Little Mermaid,” which is now set to become a live-action feature film in the near future.  In this movie, Ariel (a mermaid princess) makes a Faustian bargain with an unscrupulous sea-witch in order to meet a human prince on land.  This film is rated G and runs in at 1 hr 23 min.  Light snacks and drinks will be provided, just come out ready for some movie fun at your library.  For additional information, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.
