Monday Morning Movies

Don’t miss out on our morning movie sessions at the Main Library this summer, as we’ll be showing hits from the past and present and aimed at the general adult audience.  Each movie session will be hosted in the auditorium at the library and for our next Morning Movie flick, we’ll be watching the 1940 action/adventure (with a dash of romance) titled “The Sea Hawk” and starring Errol Flynn, Brenda Marshall, and Claude Rains.  In this movie, Geoffrey Thorpe, a buccaneer, is hired by Queen Elizabeth I to nag the Spanish Armada.  The Armada is waiting for the attack on England and Thorpe surprises them with attacks on their galleons where he shows his skills on the sword.  This film runs in at 2 hr 7 min, and for additional information, contact Marie Skufca at 325-676-6025.

Family Fun: Shark Attack

We’ve been all about dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs at your library this summer, as it’s the theme for the Kids’ Reading Club this year.  We’re going to change things up at this program by letting it be about Sharks!!!  Join us this afternoon for an interactive storytime event featuring stories, games, coloring, crafts, and more that all relate to sharks…let’s just hope you don’t get attacked by one in the library.  This event is perfect for kids of all ages, as well as the entire family, so come out and enjoy this fun activity with children’s staff at your library.  For additional information, contact Shelbie Fowler at 325-676-6067.

Family Game Night

If you’re looking for some family-oriented fun, check out your library this evening as we’ll be hosting a Family Game Night event designed for kids of all ages and parents.  Each event will center on offering different tabletop games for you to come out and enjoy in the activity room throughout the duration of the event.  Come for a little bit, or stay for the entire evening, just come out ready to have a good time.  For more information about this event, feel free to contact Anne Ellis at 325-437-7323.

Zoo Lady Visit

Gear up for the final visit from Joy Harsh, and her animal friends, from the Abilene Zoo as they head out to the Main Library for more educational fun.  Designed for kids of all ages, The Zoo Lady will bring out different animals to each of the libraries and teach youth all about them.  It’s the best way to see some great zoo animals inside your library.  Plus, at the end of the program, guests will be able to touch some of the animals as well.  We’ve been visited by owls, alligators, pythons, and more, so don’t miss out on your chance to see which animals will visit for this final session.  For additional information about this event, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Teen Flix

Get ready for a great movie night at your library for local teens to enjoy.  We’re headed out into space, voyaging where no man has gone before, as we’re showing the 2013 hit “Star Trek Into Darkness” starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana.  In a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster, this film will follow the crew of the Enterprise after they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization.  Now, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.  This film is rated PG-13 and runs in at 2 hr 12 min.  Light snacks and drinks will be provided, or you may feel free to bring your own.  Just come out ready for some movie fun at your library, and bring a friend or two with you.  For more information about the event, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Tween & Teen Coloring Club

With the success of the Coloring Club for adults, we’re adding a special coloring club this summer for tweens and teens to enjoy at your library.  If you’re between the ages of 8-18, you’re invited out to your Mockingbird Branch Library on Wednesday afternoons to have some coloring fun of your own.  Relax and work on a number of pages from superheroes to new age designs to classic images and more.  We’ll supply all the materials you’ll need for each session, but please feel free to bring your own supplies if you’d like.  Don’t miss out on the fun, and for additional information, please feel free to contact us at 325-437-7323.

Teen Book Club: “Reign of Shadows”

If you’re a teen, and you love to read, you’ll certainly want to be a part of the Teen Book Club at your library.  This session is hosted at the South Branch Library where teens meet up to discuss popular titles in YA literature.  It’s a great way to show off what our library’s collection has to offer, especially as YA reads continue to rise in popularity with readers everywhere.  For this session, we’ll be discussing the book “Reign of Shadows” by Sophie Jordan.  Look for a copy to checkout from your library, read it, and then come ready to discuss it with other avid teen readers in the community.  For additional information about this program, contact Marianne Vadney at 325-698-7565.

Stories in the Park: Dinosaur Roar

Collecting Commas Writing Club

Teen Scene After Hours: Nerf Dinosaur Hunt

Are you ready for more after hours fun at your library?  You’re in luck because we’ve got an interactive program for all local teens to take advantage of.  We’re going hunting for dinosaurs!  That’s right, we’ll give you a series of clues and you must solve them in order to hunt down that dinosaur…and do so without getting caught.  Part of the event will also involve getting out your Nerf gun to really stop them in their tracks (participants must supply their own nerf guns).  Parents can drop off their teens at 5:45PM and the fun will start at 6:00PM after the library has closed.  Rides should arrive for pickup no later than 7:30PM.  For additional information, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Kids and parents are invited to join us for a great afternoon movie this Saturday, where we’re showing a great animated dinosaur flick that introduced us to Littlefoot, Cera, Petrie, Ducky and a host of other character.  It’s 1988’s “The Land Before Time” in which an orphaned brontosaurus teams up with other young dinosaurs in order to reunite with their families in a valley.  It’s a great flick that ties right in with our dino-theme for the Summer Reading Club, so feel free to come on out and enjoy the movie with us.  This film is rated G with a run time of 1 hr 9 min.  For additional information about this program, contact Anne Ellis at 325-437-7323.
