"South Side Abilene Library in Final Stages of Construction" | KTXS

Story by Melissa Valdez with KTXS News, Oct. 11, 2016

The wait is almost over!  The new south side library location at the Mall of Abilene is in its final stages of construction.

According to City Librarian Lori Grumet, it's been a long road, but the public is in for a real treat when those doors finally open.

The library will be open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

"How excited are we?" Grumet said.  "We are so excited!  Everybody on the staff is ready for this to be done and open because we just know that the community is going to love what we have for them."

The actual construction began at the end of February 2016.

KTXS News has followed the progression since the plans began, through the start of construction and now as it finally nears completion.  According to Grumet, the wait and the hard work are going to pay off.

"This is a library like Abilene has never seen and it's really going to be modern, yet traditional," Grumet said.  "It was largely put together with private money.  With the Friends of the Library and people who really love what the library does and gave their hard earned dollars to make it all a reality.  So we're so excited to show that."
