Resumes 101: A Hands-On Class

Resumes have quickly become a job application essential.  Let us help you create a resume in real time during this 1hr hands-on PC Class.  You’ll need to bring your job history information (name of employer with mailing address) and a personal email address, so we can email you the file upon completion. Science Club

Youth, ages 8+, are invited out to our monthly Science Club session at the library.  Each month we meet up to learn about a new science concept, and then get hands on with experiments and demonstrations to immerse ourselves in what we've learned.  It's the perfect after school activity that allows youth to have fun, while learning too.  There's no registration required to be a part of this club, just come out to our next meeting and be ready to have some fun with library staff.  For more information, contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

Make & Take: Fall Trees

We're keeping the Fall fun going at the library with another fun crafting session for kids of all ages to enjoy at your library.  Immediately following the Science Club (hosted at 4:30PM at the Main Library prior to this event) kids can drop in and make a quick & easy craft with library staff.  We'll supply all the materials needed to show you how to make your own Fall Trees using colors, paper, and Q-Tips.  It will make for one great decoration during this month of Thanksgiving.  Come on out and make yours.  For additional information about this event, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

The community is invited to join us for a free movie showing at your library, where we'll be showing a film based on a true story and starring Jennifer Garner.  The featured film will be 2016's "Miracles from Heaven," and in this film, a young girl suffering from a rare digestive disorder finds herself miraculously cured after surviving a terrible accident.  This film has a run time of 1 hour and 49 minutes and is rated PG for thematic materials including accident and medical images.  Join us for this family friendly flick, and for additional information, contact Anne Ellis at 325-437-7323.

Teen Flix

Local teens are invited to join us at the library for movie night.  Each month we show popular flicks for the teen audience, and in November, we're going back to 2001 with the first film released in a hugely successful franchise, adapted from a popular book by J.K. Rowling, with "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role.  In this film,rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  This film has a run time of 2 hours and 32 minutes and has a rating of PG for some scary images and mild language.  Come re-live this popular flick at your library, and for additional information, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Minecraft Mania

Youth and teens, ages 8-18, are invited out to this monthly after school gaming event that's centered around MINECRAFT!!!  Popular with youth nationwide, guests will have the chance to come out and play on our mobile laptop stations throughout the afternoon in the library.  For those waiting to play, we'll also offer some Minecraft-inspired craft options as well.  There's no need to register for this evening, and when you arrive, everyone who wants a turn will have the opportunity to play.  Don't miss out on this popular series at your library, and for additional information, feel free to contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

Family Fun: Falling Leaves!

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a child between the ages of 10-17, and they love to express themselves through writing, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:00PM, this group meets to hone their creative writing skills in all form of writing including novels, short stories, poetry, and more.  Plus, we make writing fun by engaging in a host of fun activities to help inspire ideas and participation among participants.  There's no need to register to be a part of this club, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.  For more information about this weekly program, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Cover-to-Cover Book Club

If you're 18 and over, and you love to read, be a part of the Main Library's Cover-To-Cover Book Club.  Meeting on the third Thursday nights of each month, we discuss a variety of works from bestsellers to nonfiction, biographies to classics, and everything else in-between. Storytime: Thanksgiving is for Giving

Thanksgiving is about pilgrims, history and turkey of course but it's a holiday about everything that we are thankful for.  So join us for this special storytime event hosted by The Military Child Education Coalition, Abilene Chapter as they host a free storytime entitled “Thanksgiving is for Giving!” Based on the Margaret Sutherland book with the same title this event is for all families, including military families based here in Abilene at Dyess AFB. The Military Child Education Coalition is a local 501 c 3 non-profit committed to promoting early literacy and family development among military families. South Branch Grand Opening

Everyone is invited out to the Grand Opening of the South Branch Library, located in the Mall of Abilene next to J.C. Penney.  The festivities will begin at 10:00AM with opening ceremonies and a red ribbon cutting.  Following this, everyone will be invited into the new space to see what we've been working on for the past year and a half.  Come check out all of our new services and features including private study rooms, a quiet reading room, a true teen room, and more.  Plus, we'll offer a host of activities for youth, prize giveaways, light refreshments, crafts, entertainment, a family storytime, a special showing of "Finding Dory" at 3:00PM and more!    There will be much to come out and celebrate on this day, so be sure you mark your calendars and be a part of the opening day fun.  

International Games Day

Come join us for International Games Day @ Your Library where we are featuring table top games. Bring the whole family to try out some new games and introduce the kids to some classics.  Grandparents, parents and kids, there’s bound to be something fun to play with family or the new people you’ll meet.  A few of the games available to play include Clue, Crossways, Dominoes, Rodeo Rummy, Stack Attack and Tapple; or you can bring your own.  Snacks will be provided.

If you're looking to catch great family flick this afternoon, you should definitely stop by the Main Library to enjoy a Disney favorite.  Kids and parents are invited out for a showing of 2000's "The Emperor's New Groove" with the voices of David Spade and John Goodman.  In this comedy,Emperor Kuzco is turned into a llama by his ex-administrator Yzma, and must now regain his throne with the help of Pacha, the gentle llama herder.
