Participate in Dog LIteracy Program, Dec. 19

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a great listener.

Most of us would list patience, respect and kindness as three essential skills to being an attentive listener.  When you're learning to read, having someone who is a great listener is often crucial to gaining self-confidence and mastering the art of reading.  So who's the best listener to sit calmly and wait for a young child to read through a book on their own - a dog of course!

On Monday, December 19 at 10:30AM, Mockingbird Branch will host "Read to a Dog!" for children ages 3-12.  Local pet therapy group Tail Waggin' Tutors will be on hand with their certified canine companions to listen to children read in this come-and-go program.  Tail Waggin' Tutors is a division of Therapy Dog International, an organization committed to safety for both the dogs and the many individuals they serve.

So if you're looking for a great way to kick off the holiday, we hope you'll stop in and "Read to a Dog!" Monday, December 19 at your Mockingbird Branch Library.
