Tween Time: Christmas Tree Cones

If you're looking for another sweet holiday activity to get involved in, we invite you to head out to your library for this month's Tween Time event.  Designed for youth ages 8-15, we'll supply all the materials and instruction needed to show guests how to make their own tasty Christmas Trees out of edible sweets and goodies.  Who wouldn't want to make one for the holidays?  For more information about this evening event, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Lego Club Jr.

Youth are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club, Jr. session at your South Branch Library.  Hosted in the children’s area, we’ll supply you with a great selection of Legos so you can use your creativity to build whatever you can imagine.  Sometimes we’ll work on specific projects, or you can free design.  Plus, work on projects solo, or team up with others to make something bigger.  We’ll offer books to give you ideas of what you can make or you can let your imagination soar.  It’s all about just coming out and having fun at your library.  For more information about the Lego Club at your South Branch Library, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565. 

Teen Lego Club

Teens are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club session at your South Branch Library.  Hosted in the Teen Room, we’ll bring out a selection of Legos so you can join up with your friends, while making new ones, and work on projects together.  Show off your creativity by seeing what you’re able to construct while working on themed projects or free designing.  We’ll offer you resources of projects you can make on your own or you can simply design something you find awesome.  It’s all about spending an afternoon at your library having fun with other teens.  For more information about the Lego Club at your South Branch Library, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565. 

Anime Club

Teens and young adults, ages 14-25, are invited out to our monthly meeting of the Anime Club at your library.  If you have a passion for all things related to anime and manga, this is the club for you.  Each month we meetup to watch hit anime shows, dish on anime, and engage in other activities to share our passions with others.  There's no need to register for this club, just feel free to come and check out a meeting.  For more information, contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

West Texas Trees: Where We've Been, Where We Are, and Where We're Going

You’re invited to join us for our first program for adults hosted at the new South Branch Library facility located in the Mall of Abilene.  Join us as we invite in Bruce Kreitler, City Councilman and owner of Broken Willow Tree Service, as he presents a great program titled “West Texas Trees: Where We’ve Been, Where We Are, and Where We’re Going.”  Mr. Kreitler will discuss how this area was historically a grassland until the land usage was changed, and how trees used to be planted and cared for, how we do it now, and what the future of trees here looks like.  Don’t pass up your chance to learn about our area from a local expert, and for additional information, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565. 

Morning Mingle Movies

Don’t miss the first Wednesdays at your South Branch Library as we’ll be hosting our monthly Morning Mingle Movie.  Each session will feature a great flick from the past or present and aimed especially for adults.  For December, we’ll be celebrating the holidays with the adaptation of a bestselling novel by John Grisham with 2004’s “Christmas with the Kranks” starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis.  In this movie, with their daughter away, the Kranks decide to skip Christmas altogether until she decides to come home, causing an uproar when they have to celebrate the holiday at the last minute.  This film is rated PG for brief language and suggestive content and runs in at an hour and 39 minutes.  Light snacks will be provided, or you may feel free to bring your own.  For additional information, contact Cynthia Gault at 325-698-7565.

Super Storytime: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Kids and parents are invited to attend our monthly Super Storytime at your Mockingbird Branch!  This month, we're sticking with the holiday theme and hosting a program that's all about one of the most famous reindeer of all...RUDOLPH!!!  Join us for some great stories about this character that guides Santa's sleigh, and kids will also get a chance to make a painting of Rudolph using your feet.  You read that right...painting with your feet.  All materials will be supplied so be sure to come on out and have some holiday fun with library staff.  For additional information, feel free to contact Darla Casella at 325-437-7323.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a child between the ages of 10-17, and they love to express themselves through writing, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:00PM, this group meets to hone their creative writing skills in all form of writing including novels, short stories, poetry, and more.  Plus, we make writing fun by engaging in a host of fun activities to help inspire ideas and participation among participants.  There's no need to register to be a part of this club, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.  For more information about this weekly program, contact Kelsie Wade at 325-676-6067.

Studio Portrait Workshop w/Danny Snook

Join your South Branch Library for a unique event led by Danny Snook with The Creative Company, who will be leading a “Studio Portrait Workshop” Thursday, December 8 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM.  This workshop is free and limited to 25 individuals who will join Snook in learning a host of photography techniques.  Participants are responsible for bringing their own DSLR (digital camera with telephoto lens) to learn and practice techniques including posing (masculine vs. feminine, full length, ¾ length, half-length, head & shoulders), lighting (learning about the four characteristics of light: color, quantity, quality, and direction), and live shooting (putting your new skills to use).  If you want to learn what it takes to have a home studio, you’ll want to attend this workshop.  For additional information, and to check on availability, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.

Your South Branch Library presents Family Flix, a monthly program for all ages featuring a movie the entire family will like. Join us for the holidays in December as we show the time-honored animated classic, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”  Voiced by Boris Karloff, the Grinch lives on top of a hill overlooking Whoville with his dog, Max.  Each year at Christmas time, the Grinch’s hatred grows stronger toward those insufferably cheerful Whos down in Whoville.  One year, he gets the idea to stop Christmas altogether, ruining it for all the happy Whos.  Popcorn and drinks will be provided, or feel free to bring your own snacks or sack lunch to enjoy.  For additional information, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Don’t miss the 2nd Saturdays at your South Branch as this is our major movie day with Family Flix in the morning and our Saturday Matinee in the afternoon.  All are welcome to drop in for our featured popular flick of the month as we’ll be showing great hits across all movie genres.  In December, we’re showing the third installment in the Star Trek reboot starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in “Star Trek Beyond.  In this film, the USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.  This film is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action.  Light snacks will be provided, or feel free to bring your own.  For more information, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.
