Holiday Closing: New Year's

The Main Library and Mockingbird Branch Library locations will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1 through Monday, Jan. 2 in observance of New Year's Day.  Outside materials returns are available if you need to drop off items.  The South Branch Library will be open for business during regular hours on both days.

Lego Club Jr.

Youth are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club, Jr. session at your South Branch Library.  Hosted in the children’s area, we’ll supply you with a great selection of Legos so you can use your creativity to build whatever you can imagine.  Sometimes we’ll work on specific projects, or you can free design.  Plus, work on projects solo, or team up with others to make something bigger.  We’ll offer books to give you ideas of what you can make or you can let your imagination soar.  It’s all about just coming out and having fun at your library.  For more information about the Lego Club at your South Branch Library, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Teen Lego Club

Teens are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club session at your South Branch Library.  Hosted in the Teen Room, we’ll bring out a selection of Legos so you can join up with your friends, while making new ones, and work on projects together.  Show off your creativity by seeing what you’re able to construct while working on themed projects or free designing.  We’ll offer you resources of projects you can make on your own or you can simply design something you find awesome.  It’s all about spending an afternoon at your library having fun with other teens.  For more information about the Lego Club at your South Branch Library, contact Alyssa Crow at 325-698-7565.

Anime Club

Teens and young adults, ages 14-25, are invited out to our monthly meeting of the Anime Club at your library.  If you have a passion for all things related to anime and manga, this is the club for you.  Each month we meetup to watch hit anime shows, dish on anime, and engage in other activities to share our passions with others.  There's no need to register for this club, just feel free to come and check out a meeting.  For more information, contact Amanda Sasser at 325-676-6067.

Did you know your Abilene Public Library has a wide selection of ebooks available for free?  If you have a Kindle, tablet or iPad all you need to do is have an active public library card and download our free app.  Join us every Friday morning in October for a one-on-one learning session.  Call 437-7323 to sign up for your slot, or for more information.

Morning Mingle Movie

Don’t miss the first Wednesdays at your South Branch Library as we’ll be hosting our monthly Morning Mingle Movie.  Each session will feature a great flick from the past or present and aimed especially for adults.  For January, we’ll be showing a film based on true events with 2016’s “The Finest Hours” starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck.  In this movie, the Coast Guard makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Code after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952.  This film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of peril and runs in at an hour and 57 minutes.  Light snacks will be provided, or you may feel free to bring your own.  For additional information, contact Cynthia Gault at 325-698-7565.

Make & Take: DIY Mugs

It's still winter, and during the cooler months, nothing is better than enjoying a hot beverage to warm you up.  At our monthly Make & Take craft session, youth are invited out to design their own mugs to enjoy their favorite drinks from.  We'll supply all the materials needed for this hand-on workshop, so you won't want to miss out on attending to make your own.  For additional information, contact us at 325-437-7323.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a child between the ages of 10-17, and they love to express themselves through writing, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:00PM, this group meets to hone their creative writing skills in all form of writing including novels, short stories, poetry, and more.  Plus, we make writing fun by engaging in a host of fun activities to help inspire ideas and participation among participants.  There's no need to register to be a part of this club, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.  For more information

Family Fun: The Perfect Pet

Join us at your South Branch Library for the first Family Fun event of the month, where we’ll be celebrating Pets at your library. Join us as we read some great children’s stories, including one by children’s author/illustrator Garth Williams, the 2017 Children’s Art & Literacy Festival honoree, plus, we’ll get hands on in additional activities and crafts.  Along the way, we’ll hope you’ll be able to decide on the perfect pet by the end of the program.  Please note, even though this will be a program all about pets, we do ask that you leave your own pets at home. Angels Care Community Classroom: "Depression & Anxiety"

Depression and anxiety affects millions of American adults each year.  Your Abilene Public Library is proud to partner with Angels Care Home Health to provide a Community Classroom workshop to teach guests about understanding the signs of depression, as well as common anxiety disorders.  Whether you may be interested in learning about these topics for yourself, or for someone you care about, Melissa Day will be on hand to provide you with great information designed to help people stay safe and healthy.  Help is out there, and local resources are available for the community to take advantage of.  We invite you to attend this free event and be a part of the dialogue.  Feel free to come with your questions and something to take notes with, and get the facts you need at your library.  For additional information, feel free to contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.

Super Storytime: Cat-Tastic!
