Last week we introduced you to the new Playaways collection, available at your South Branch Library, offering a quick & easy way to listen to audiobooks on-the-go. Thanks to our partnership with the Dyess Air Force Base Library, this wasn't the only new collection we added to the library. We're happy to now provide access to a great selection of Rosetta Stone materials too!
The Rosetta Stone series is a collection of computer-assisted language learning software, which to many is highly sought after, designed to help you learn a new language quickly. The software uses a combination of images, text, and sound to help teach words and grammar by spaced repetition, without translation. This approach is what's referred to as Dynamic Immersion because the fastest way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in it completely.
A number of different languages are offered in this new collection at your library. Popular selections includes those for learning French, German, Italian, and Japanese...sorry, we do not currently offer one for Spanish at this time.
If you've been itching to learn a new language, we invite you to come out and visit the South Branch Library to see what titles we have available. Or, you may visit us online to search for the Rosetta Stone series using our online catalog.
If you don't find a language you're looking for, you may also take advantage of the Pronunciator database (free to Abilene Public Library cardholders), which will help you learn any of 70+ different language. Available online, it's yet another great option to help you learn a second language or work you way towards becoming a polyglot...we should all be so lucky.
If you have questions about our language learning materials at your library, feel free to contact us and staff will be more than happy to assist you.
