As more people acquire smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other devices, there can be a learning curve when it comes to being comfortable using them. If you need help learning to use your device, getting started on the library's great lineup of digital services, maneuvering your way through the Internet or Microsoft Office applications, join us for Tech Monday Instruction at your library.

Warm Up to a Good Book

Family Fun: Funny Bunny

Are you ready to have a hoping good time at your library? If so, come on out to our next Family Fun event at your South Branch library, offering a fun early evening storytime event that's all about bunnies. Join us as we read some great children's stories, including one by children's author/illustrator Garth Williams, the 2017 Children's Art & Literacy Festival honoree, plus, we'll get hands-on in additional activities and crafts.

The Craft Life: Heart Art

Same program, different name! Our Tween Time has transformed into The Craft Life and moved times to 6:00PM instead of 6:30PM. The crafts for these programs are intended to be difficult enough to appeal to kids ages 8-12, but still able to be completed in the library. For this first programs, we'll be making heart art out of nails, string, and corkboard. Participants will create some kind of heart design in a corkboard with nails, then weave brightly colored string or yarn from pin to pin to create either a heart or the outline of one. At then end, you'll have a delightful piece of art to hang.

Lego Club Jr.

Youth are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club Jr. session at your South Branch Library. Hosted in the children's area, we'll supply you with a great selection of Legos so you can use your creativity to build whatever you can imagine. Sometimes we'll work on specific projects, or you can free design. Plus, work on projects solo, or team up with others to make something bigger. It's all about just coming out and having fun at your library.

Teen Lego Club

Teens are invited to join us for our monthly Lego Club session at your South Branch Library. Hosted in the Teen Room, we'll bring out a selection of Legos so you can join up with your friends, while making new ones, and work on projects together. Show off your creativity by seeing what you're able to construct while working on themed projects or free designing. It's all about spending an afternoon at your library having fun with other teens.

Anime Club

Teens and young adults, ages 14-25, are invited out to our monthly meeting of the Anime Club at your library.  If you have a passion for all things related to anime and manga, this is the club for you.  Each month we meetup to watch hit anime shows, dish on anime, and engage in other activities to share our passions with others.  There's no need to register for this club, just feel free to come and check out a meeting.

Morning Mingle: Coloring Club

Adults are invited to join us for a great Morning Mingle event at your South Branch Library, offering morning activities to get involved in on the first and second Wednesdays of each month. For this session, you're welcome to join us for a relaxing morning of coloring your stress and cares away. Come meet new people, make new friends, and enjoy yourself at this great event. We'll provide coloring sheets for your to choose from, and we'll also provide the colors you'll need as well. If you want to bring your own, feel free to do so.

Free Tax Help

If you need help filing your taxes, take part in this free program led by IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP.  Multiple sessions will be hosted each week, and guests will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis while spaces allow.  Be sure to bring your Photo ID, social security card, W-2’s, and all other tax information you may need to file.  Volunteers will be on hand to walk you through the filing process, and e-File your taxes during your visit.

This after school event is perfect for letting your creativity soar as we'll supply you with a sea of Legos and building platforms and just set you loose to build whatever you like.  Sometimes we'll build based on a monthly theme, and other times we'll free design.  Whether you wish to work on a project solo, or team up with others for a joint project, just come out ready to have some building fun at your library. 

Super Storytime: Valentine Bears

You'll not want to miss the next Super Storytime event at your Mockingbird Branch Library, designed as an enhanced morning activity for kids and parents to take part in.  For February, we'll be have a "Beary" good time as we share some lovable stories about bears, sing songs, play a few games, and even make a "Beary" cool craft out of paper hearts!  

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a child between the ages of 10-17, and they love to express themselves through writing, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM, this group meets to hone their creative writing skills in all form of writing.  Plus, we make writing fun by engaging in a host of fun activities to help inspire ideas and participation among participants.  There's no need to register to be a part of this club, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.

Stories & More with Smile Crafters

 In February, pets will be taking over the theme of this movie the follows the quiet life of a terrier named Max when it's upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes. This film is rated PG for action and some rude humor and has a run time of 1 hour and 27 minutes. Although this will be a film about the pets we love, we do ask that you leave your pets at home...unless they're of the stuffed animal variety. Popcorn and drinks will be provided, or feel free to bring your own snacks or sack lunch to enjoy.

Everyone is welcome to join us for our featured popular flick of the month as we'll be showing great hits from all genres and years. In February, we'll be showing a recent Disney flick that introduced us to a new princess, Tiana.  In this film, a waitress, desperate to fulfill her dreams as a restaurant owner, is sent on a journey to turn a frog prince back into a human being, but she has to face the same problem after she kisses him. This film is rated G and has a run time of an hour and 37 minutes. Light snacks will be provided, or feel free to bring your own.
