If you're a parent and you still don't understand what this game is all about, Minecraft is considered a three-dimensional sandbox game.  In other words, it has no specific goals the players have to accomplish.  Instead, they build their own construction out of textured cubes in a three dimensional world.  It's not a typical violent video game often favored by older teens.  This game employs practical lessons and creativity, and is limited only by the imaginations of the players.  Minecraft is similar to LEGO blocks, and played for the sake of playing, the difference being this game is played on a the computer.

There are four modes to this games: survive, adventure, spectator, and creative.  Some of these can be interactively played with other players.  Right now, the Mockingbird Branch Library is trying out the survival mode, where the players will focus on objectives within a specific story.  The players must acquire resources to build a world and maintain their health.  It seemed to be a hit, with several players successfully completing the journey.  That being said, the Main Library and South Branch locations also host this program, for tweens and teens, so you may be playing in different modes at different locations.

Minecraft has been considered the 2nd best-selling video game of all time, and it's easy to see why!  The players love it because it allows them to use their imaginations, making it the virtual game they want to design and play.  The different modes also allow them to solve puzzles, build teamwork, and increase the confidence of each player.

Bring your tweens to the Mockingbird Branch Library on the second Tuesdays of each month, and let them explore and create in a safe virtual environment!  Come in and see for yourself just how much they enjoy it.

If you have tweens and teens that are looking for more Minecraft Mania fun at the library, remember that the Main Library and South Branch Library locations offer monthly Minecraft sessions for ages 8-18.  Also offered at 3:30PM, the Main Library hosts theirs on the third Wednesday afternoons of the month, while the South Branch Library's runs on the fourth Tuesday afternoons of each month.  Just more sessions to enjoy this popular series.
