"Master Your Resume" | @ the Library Article

Whether you're on the job hunt, or already have a career, it's a great rule of thumb to maintain a resume.  Since you always need one when you apply for a job, these short documents are one of the best ways to market yourself to a potential employer.  As important as a resume is, not everyone knows how to make one.  If a resume can make or break your chances at getting a job (and they certainly can), you need to make sure you have a great one to offer.

Your Abilene Public Library can certainly help by providing you with access to a free database, Cypress Resume, which will walk you through all the steps to create a standout resume.  Best yet, you won't stress out during the process of creating one.  Access to this database, as well as our others, is free with a valid library card.  Simply visit us online and click on the E-Resources link, then look for the Cypress Resume database under the "Jobs, Resumes & Cover Letters" subject heading.

Cypress Resume is designed to give you the means to "create professional-quality resumes in three quick and simple steps" that won't leave you in a mental heap of frustration as you try to figure out what goes where, and how and why.  I promise, from my experience, it is one of the easiest resume builders I've come across.  Although we do house a great collection of printed resume guides, Cypress Resume will go a step further by formatting your document, keeping track of your resume so you can access it at any time, and allowing you to print it off, and more.  Trust me, you'll want to go with all this database has to offer.

Once you log on, you'll find that it will take you through three basic steps towards completing your final resume.  First, input your name, contact information, work history, and education.  Don't know where it goes on a resume?  You don't need to.  You're just inputting the information in the respective boxes and the site will worry about putting it in the right order when you're finished.

Next, choose the title of your desired job, or the skill set you wish to highlight.  Finally, choose from a collection of concise and professional job statements to ensure your resume will stand out.  I performed all the steps myself, from start to finish, and as long as you have all of your work history, accomplishments, education, and other items only you know before you start, it shouldn't take more than 10-20 minutes to get a basic resume created.  After that, fine tune and tweak the areas you'd like to get it looking the best it can.

Once you're happy with your finished resume, download a copy that can be viewed on the majority of all word processing programs, preview how it looks, or go further with creating cover letters and reference pages.  All of these options and tools are at your fingertips just waiting for you to use.

Let's face it.  We live in a world where the job market is highly competitive and job seekers need to put their best foot forward to land the job they want.  Your first shot at doing so is by creating a strong resume, and just know, Cypress Resume is ready for you to use to get that job done.  Be sure to make use of this great database through your Abilene Public Library, and remember, all you need to access it is a valid library card.  As long as you live in Taylor County, it, and all other fine online resources, are free.  So be sure to visit us and get your card today!
