Voice Actress, Manga Creator, Cosplay & More...It's Happening at Lib-Con in May!

Winter is coming!  Okay, that may be more effective when Game of Thrones does it, but for us, May is coming, and that means it's time for Lib-Con @ Your Library!!!  Now in its fourth year, we're transforming your library system into a paradise of programming, contests, gaming, and fun for all who have an interest in pop culture, fandoms, comics, manga, anime, and more.  We invite you to visit our Lib-Con page online to find all of your details on what's going down.  Then join us for the fun running May 1-6 across all branch locations.

Remember: All Lib-Con activities are 100% free.  All you'll need money for is if you want to buy an official Lib-Con t-shirt (which are awesome), purchase goods from vendors, or grab lunch from food trucks on the final day of Lib-Con.

We're also thrilled to announce our special guests visiting Lib-Con this year including voice actress Terri Doty and American manga creator Mark Crilley (thanks to our friends at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature).

Terri Doty is a talented voice actress from the DFW area, and you may recognize many of the characters she's voiced in hit anime shows.  Her credits include Chutaro from "Laughing Under the Clouds," Kiara Hazama from "Assassination Classroom," Maria from "Black Butler," Fem! Germany from "Hetalia: The Beautiful World," and more.  Doty will be at a meet and greet on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00PM at your Main Library (202 Cedar St.) and sticking around to be a guest judge at the Cosplay Contest at 3:00PM.

Mark Crilley will return to Abilene, thanks to the NCCIL, as a special guest speaker at Lib-Con.  Crilley is a talented author/illustrator and American manga creator who had developed popular children's book series including the "Miki Falls," "Akiko," "Billy Click," "Brody's Ghost" series, and more.  He also actively shares his talents to help budding artists hone their artistic skills through popular instructional books and an active YouTube page.  With more than 2.7 million followers and a lineup of videos that have been viewed more than 338 million times, he's certainly an artist you won't want to miss.  Crilley will be on hand for a meet and greet, as well as provide a demonstration, on Friday, May 5 at 4:00PM at your Main Library.  He will then attend an event at the NCCIL the following Saturday at 10:00AM.

The fun doesn't stop there.  Lib-Con will be chocked full of great activities including fandom nights for Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Star Wars fans, D&D gaming, Face Off Special Effects Makeup Contest, movie showings, cosplay instructional workshops from an award-winning cosplayer, and more.

All of this will lead up to the final day of Lib-Con on Saturday, May 7 where the Main Library will be full of activities from open to close including:
  • Free comics through the Free Comic Book Day event (while supplies last).
  • Shopping from featured Lib-Con vendors & exhibitors.
  • Attending or competing in the annual Cosplay Contest.
  • Grabbing a bite from local food trucks including Rockn Rollerz Rolln Grill, The London Express, and The Sweet Side.
  • Finding a date (with someone who shares your passion for various fandoms) at Nerdy Speed Dating.
  • Battling it out in a Cosplay Chess Tournament; and much more...
Don't miss out on the fun this year, and remember, you can find all of your Lib-Con information ONLINE.  We're making it bigger and better with each year, and with over 2,000 people joining us last year, let's pull in even more people this year.
