Tech Monday Instruction

If you need help learning to use your device, getting started on the library’s great lineup of digital services, maneuvering your way through the Internet or Microsoft Office applications, join us for Tech Monday Instruction at your library.  Your South Branch librarians will be on hand to help patrons on a first-come, first-served basis in the meeting room.  Don’t pass up on 1-on-1 instruction to answer your specific technology questions.

Join us at your Mockingbird Branch Library for a free movie showing for all ages to enjoy.  This month, we're going back to a classic western starring James Garner, Joan Hackett, and Walter Brennan in 1969's "Support Your Local Sheriff."  In this film, in the old west, a man becomes a sheriff just for the pay, figuring he can decamp if things get tough.  In the end, he uses ingenuity instead.  This film is rated G and has a run time of 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Science Club

Youth, ages 8 and older, are invited to join us for our monthly Science Club session at your Main Library. This program is designed to teach youth about new science concepts, and then bring them to life through performing safe experiments and watching demonstrations. It's the best way to combine education with having fun at your library.

Make & Take: Umbrella Cards

Kids of all ages are invited to join us for a quick crafting session at your Main Library following Science Club.  For this month, we'll supply all the materials to show you how to create some cool looking umbrella cards.  Who knows, maybe they'll even invite in the rain.  Come out and color to your heart's content and add a folded paper umbrella to complete the look, then hit the shelves in search of some great books to checkout from your library.

Bone Builders and Bone Breakers

Join us for a nutrition class that's all about bone health.  Nutritional Health Coach Dessire Armstrong says, "bones are living tissue that respond to bone building care throughout life."  Come to this free workshop to learn how to support lifelong bone health by knowing how to get all the nutrients your bones need.

Minecraft Mania

Peter and the Starcatcher Cast Meet & Greet

We are thrilled to be inviting in members of ACU's theater department, who will come in costume to provide families with a sneak peek of their upcoming production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Come out to meet them all, get your picture with a pirate, and more. This will be the latest play from ACU, running April 21-30. It serves as a prequel to Peter Pan that takes a hilarious romp through the Neverland you never knew. Free Tax Assistance (Final Sessions)

If you need help filing your taxes, take part in this free program led by IRS-trained volunteers with the AARP.  Multiple sessions will be hosted each week, and guests will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis while spaces allow.  Be sure to bring your Photo ID, social security card, W-2’s, and all other tax information you may need to file.  Volunteers will be on hand to walk you through the filing process, and e-File your taxes during your visit. 

Military Brown Bag Series: How to Talk to Veterans About the War

Join us at your South Branch Library for another engaging session of the Military Brown Bag Series.  This program will be hosted on the second Wednesdays afternoons of each month through the Fall, and each are designed to foster discussions relating to veterans and connecting them with members in the community who have not served in the military.  Through engaging videos and presentations, each are designed to spark a discussion among those in the audience and open the lines of communication between veterans and the Abilene community.  Feel free to bring your own lunch and come participate in this special series at your Abilene Public Library.

Lego My Library

If you're a tween or teen, you're creative, and you love to build things, you'll certainly want to be a part of the Lego My Library club at your Main Library.  Join us this afternoon as we supply you with tons of Lego pieces and platforms and then have you build whatever your mind can think up.  Sometimes we'll build based off of a certain theme, other times we're free design.  Work on a project solo, or team up with others for a join project.  There's no wrong way to enjoy this program. 

Super Storytime: Easter Eggs

It's time for Easter Eggs so kids and parents are invited to join us at the Mockingbird Branch Library for our monthly Super Storytime event that's all about Easter Eggs.  Join us as we'll be reading some popular stories featuring these decorated Spring eggs, as well as make some great crafts to take home and remember the program by.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a young writer between the ages of 10-17, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM, this group works toward honing their creative writing skills in all forms of writing including novels, short stories, poetry, and more.  There's no need to register, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.

The Main Library & Mockingbird Branch locations will be closed in observance of Good Friday.  Outside materials returns will be available if you need to return any library items.  For your convenience, your South Branch Library will be open regular hours from 10AM to 6PM.  Feel free to come out to visit this location if you need to use a library this day.
