Minecraft Mania

We want you to be a part of the Minecraft Mania fun at your Abilene Public Library, with multiple sessions hosted across all three branches! Designed for tweens and teens (ages 8-18), join your South Branch Library on the fourth Tuesday afternoons of each month as we dive into the digital world of Minecraft.  We'll provide access to laptops for gamers to play in story mode, while also offering some additional Minecraft-themed activities and crafts to get involved in.  So come on out, bring a friend, and make some new ones at this digital series of events at your library.

Mockingbird Nights: Tabletop Gaming

There has been a positive deluge of adult tabletop gaming the last few years.  They can add up and be quite pricy so why spend your hard-earned dollars trying to find the diamonds in the rough?  Come to Mockingbird Nights where we will have a selection of tabletop games for you to enjoy, feel free to bring friends or come and make new ones!  Designed for ages 18+.

Teen Time: DIY Earbud Cases

Tired of your earbuds or other cords ending up tangled in your bag?  Come to the Mockingbird Branch Library and we will show you how to make your own personalized earbud case.  This program is completely free and we will provide all the supplies to make your own unique and useful case.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

If you have a young writer between the ages of 10-17, don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the weekly Collecting Commas Writing Club at your Main Library.  Meeting every Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM, this group works toward honing their creative writing skills in all forms of writing including novels, short stories, poetry, and more.  There's no need to register, simply come check out a meeting and see if it's meant for you.

We are hosting a nutrition class that will help Balance your Blood Sugar! Speaker Dessire Armstrong says, “Learn how nutrient-dense meals support healthy metabolism and which nutrient supplements support healthy blood sugar levels and appetite control.”  Armstrong holds a B.S. in Nutrition and an A.S. in Gerontology and she has a passion for sharing health and wellness with people she meets.

MCEC Morning Storytime: Moose's Loose Tooth

Kids and parents are invited to join us for a great morning storytime event led by the Military Child Education Coalition.  It’s a great activity designed for kids and parents to enjoy together. In May, the featured book will be Jacqueline A. Clark’s “Moose’s Loose Tooth.”  Feel free to drop in and be a part of this event designed for kids of all ages.

Saturday Matinee: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

If you love movies, you certainly won't want to miss out on the next Saturday Matinee session at your South Branch Library. We'll be going back to the '80s to show one of Steven Spielberg's greatest family films. That's right, join us for a free showing of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" starring Henry Thomas. In this film, when an alien becomes stranded on earth, its discovered and befriended by a boy named Elliott. Deciding with his brother and sister to keep the alien a secret, it soon falls ill, resulting in a government intervention and a dire situation for both Elliott and the alien.

Legos Galore

School age children are invited to participate in this fun club session where you can work independently, or pair up with others, to work on great Lego projects. The building process will take about 45-minutes and then we’ll take some time to look over all the different designs participants made at this session.  We’ll supply all the Legos and platforms you’ll need, you just bring your imagination. Youth under age 8 should be accompanied by an adult.

BATurday Afternoon Movie: Batman - Return of the Caped Crusaders

Join us as we host a great new monthly movie series that will feature great Batman flicks both past and present at your Main Library. For the first session, we'll be watching "Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders" with the voices of the original Batman series stars including Adam West, Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, and the rest of the gang. In this animated flic, released in 2016, Batman and Robin are back in action and ready to take down their fiendish foes united once more against them.

Your Mockingbird Branch Library is hosting another great afternoon movie showing for families to enjoy. This time, we'll be watching Disney's "Zootopia" with the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. In this film, in a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
