I know we say this every year, it is absolutely true - thanks to community generosity, the Friends of the Abilene Public Library are having the largest book sale they have ever had and you get to benefit from it! Beginning Thursday, June 15 at 5:00PM, members of the Friends can get in the Abilene Convention Center to get the first crack at the thousands of books, audiobooks, vinyl record albums, DVDs, cassette tapes, CDs, and more. If you're not already a member of the Friends, you may buy an annual membership at the door for $15 per person, or $25 per family.
On Friday, June 16 from 10:00AM to 8:00PM, Saturday, June 17 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM, admission is free to everyone. People all over the Big Country wait for this sale each year, because you can stock up on reading, viewing and listening materials at unbeatable prices! Large hardcover and softcover books are $2.00, smaller paperbacks are $1.00, and children's books are $2.00 per inch. CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks are $2.00, while cassette tapes and vinyl records are $1.00 each. We even have some computer software at $2.00 each.
And on Sunday, June 18 from 1:00PM until 4:00PM, it gets even better. During the famous "Bag-O-Books" sale, $6.00 will get you an entire bag of great reading, listening or viewing (bags furnished at the sale). Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards will be accepted for purchases, with proper picture ID. The Friends are able to accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Diner's Club.
Two featured areas of the sale are 'Antiques and Uniques' and the Corner Store. 'Antiques and Uniques' contains rare, hard-to-find and collectible books at far lower prices than you might expect. The Corner Store features new or 'gently used' books at a fraction of their original price. Both of these areas include special interest fiction and nonfiction titles.
Another facet of this sale is that, while you are finding great books to read, CDs to listen to, or DVDs to watch, you have the satisfaction of knowing your money is going to improve and fun library materials, equipment, activities, and staff training opportunities for the Abilene Public Library. That includes programs like the Summer Reading Clubs, which are going on right now at all three library locations, and the new South Branch location in the Mall of Abilene.
Add all this to the fact that library services are already FREE to everyone who lives in Abilene or Taylor County, and that makes the Friends Book Sale an even better deal! You're getting great, money-saving materials to enjoy and making sure that your library continues as the most inexpensive place for fun and enjoyment all year round.
Information about the sale is available on the library's homepage, by clicking on the Friends link on the left side of the page. Or please call 325-676-6025 if you have any questions. Hope to see you at the Convention Center.
