Friends of the Library Book Sale: Bag-O-Books

You won't want to miss the final day of the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale at the Abilene Convention Center.  As the biggest used book sale around, this is the time you will find the most amazing deals on a wide selection of materials including books, movies, music, and more.  Open to the general public at no charge, the final day of the sale is the Bag-O-Books Sale where $6.   will get you a bag that you can fill with remaining items left at the sale.  You'll get the most bang for your buck on this day.  Any materials not purchased at this year's sale will then be donated to local organizations so we can start fresh with collection donations for 2018.

Tee Time with Dad

Celebrate Father's Day at a special Tee Time with Dad (or anyone like a dad - uncle, grandpa, brother, friend, etc.). Spend the afternoon playing Indoor Mini-Golf, library-style, at this come and go program with Tee Times every 10 minutes starting at 2:00PM. Dads and kids will all enjoy this afternoon activity, so have fun spending time with the special men in your life.

Family Fun: Summer Fun

Parent-to-Parent Workshop: Preventing the Summer Slide

School-Age Event: Abilene Kennel Club

Kids are invited out to a great event where we're inviting out the Abilene Kennel Club and their four-legged friends.  As a popular summer program at your library, they'll be on hand to perform tricks, discuss dog obedience, and more with guests who come out.  Plus, at the end of the program, you'll be able to meet all of the canines too.  Although this is a great program featuring dogs, we do ask that you leave your own pets at home.  Don't miss out on this activity, and for additional information, contact staff at 325-676-6067.

Teen Flix: Rogue One

Teens are invited to join us for a free movie night, hosted at a new time for the summer.  This month we'll be showing the latest installment in the Star Wars universe with 2016's "Rogue One" starring Felicity Jones and Diego Luna.  In this movie, all looks lost for the Rebellion against the Empire as they learn of the existence of a new super weapon, the Death Star.  Once a possible weakness in its construction is uncovered, the Rebel Alliance must set out on a desperate mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.  The future of the entire galaxy now rests upon its success.  This film is rated PG-13 for extended sequences of sci-fi violence and action and has a run time of two hours and 13 minutes.  Light snacks will be served; contact us at 325-676-6067 for additional information.

Morning Mingle's Family Coloring Club

Kids & parents are invited to the next weekly Disney Flix & Crafts session and this week's featured flick will be 1992's "Aladdin" with the voices of Scott Winger, Linda Larkin, and Robin Williams.  In this film, when a street urchin vies for the love of a beautiful princess, he uses a genie's magic power to make himself off as a prince in order to marry her.  This film is rated G and has a run time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.  Snacks will be available and we'll supply all materials needed for the crafts.  For more information, contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565.

Collecting Commas Writing Club

Saturday Matinee: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Don't miss out on the next Saturday Matinee session at your library.  For this session, we'll be watching 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as we gear up for the release of the reboot to the franchise in July.  In this film, when New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect, as well as his loved ones.  This film is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action/violence and has a run time of 2 hours and 22 minutes.  Light snacks will be served, or feel free to bring your own.  Contact Tremain Jackson at 325-698-7565 for additional information.

Families are invited out to the next afternoon movie showing at your library.  At this session, we'll be going back in time with a live-action (and animated) flick from 1996 titled "Space Jam" starring Michael Jordan and Wayne Knight.  In this film, in a desperate attempt to win a basketball match and earn their freedom, the Looney Tunes seek the aid of retired basketball champion, Michael Jordan.  This film is rated PG for some mild cartoon language and has a run time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.  For more information, contact us at 325-437-7323.


BATurday Afternoon Movie: Batman (1989)

You're invited to join us for another round of BAM at your library where we feature popular Batman flicks that never get old.  At this session, we'll be showing 1989's "Batman" starring Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger & Jack Nicholson.  In this film, the Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy, the clownishly homicidal Joker.  This film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence, sexual content, language, and some disturbing images, and has a run time of 2 hours and 6 minutes.  Don't miss out and call us at 325-676-6025 if you have any questions.
