About Us

Your Abilene Public Library serves you from three (3) convenient locations.  Our mission is to provide materials, services, and programs to help community residents obtain information which meets their personal, educational, professional, and recreational needs.  Special emphasis is placed on providing current, high-demand, high-interest materials in a variety of formats for individuals of all ages; providing accurate, useful, and timely information for job-related and personal interests, and encouraging young children to develop and interest in reading and learning.

Conveniently located in historic Downtown Abilene, your Main Library serves as the primary location for the public library system in Abilene.  Here you will find the largest collection of materials servicing Taylor County including our administrative offices, information services department, genealogy department, children's department, selection of Spanish-language materials, and more.

The South Branch Library relocated to the Mall of Abilene (next to J.C. Penney) on November 19, 2016.  First established in January 1998, this location features access to popular reading materials, DVDs, audiobooks, computers, and more.  The new location offers new amenities including a designated Teen Room, private study rooms, a meeting room, a Quiet Reading Room, Sunday hours, and more.

Established in 2009, this is your newest library branch located in the Edgewood Shopping Center as your true neighborhood library.  Serving northwest Abilene, this facility offers access to popular reading materials for all ages, DVDs, audiobooks, computers, and more.  Additionally, this locations provides access to a Quiet Study Area, an Activity Room, and great sitting areas.
