Happy New Year's Eve! We may be at the end of 2018, but your Abilene Public Library has some wonderful things in store for 2019. One of them continues to be the Creation Station, a makerspace that is located at the Main Library at 202 Cedar St. This space is designed for makers and crafters to bring their ideas to life by utilizing equipment and tools at the library. Users must either attend the orientation class or reach through the orientation online at www.abilenetx.gov/apl and return the accident waiver to the Information Services department in the basement before using the makerspace.
Our Cricut Design Space Class on Monday, January 7th at 4:30PM will cover how to use the Cricut Design Space, how to load and unload your material, and make wonderful things. Now, what is a Cricut, you may ask? The Cricut is an electronic die cut machine that can be used for cutting paper, felt, vinyl, fabric, and more. Users create designs via the Design Space on a computer or mobile device. Then, you can create personalized items like t-shirts, bookbags, cups, and just about everything else you can think of.
During the Creation Station Orientation Class on Monday, January 14th at 4:30PM, we cover the variety of fun equipment that is available in our makerspace, along with policies, guidelines, and fees. The crafting possibilities are endless! If you cannot make this class, feel free to drop by anytime to pick up the information and waiver from the Information Services department.
3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Our 3D Printer Design Class on Monday, January 28th at 4:30PM will cover how to use the TinkerCAD design program, how to use our slicing program, and how to upload and print your creations on the PolyPrinter.
Other equipment and tools are available include: basic crafting supplies, iron, laminator, Sizzix die cutter with an abundance of dies available, heat press, sewing machine, and more. For more information about the Creation Station makerspace at your Main Library, contact Heather Carter at 325-676-6025.
Please be reminded that all Abilene Public Library locations will close at 6:00PM for New Year's Eve, and the Main and Mockingbird Branches will be closed on Tuesday, January 1. The South Branch will be open on New Year's Day, closing early at 6:00PM, so if you'd like to get your 2019 started right, drop by that location. We will all resume regular hours on Wednesday, January 2nd, and we wish all of you the happiest and most prosperous of New Years in 2019.
